The Sad Songs Project

This thesis project is an immersive experience that encourages users to explore the role of sad songs in pop culture through an app, a poster series, and postcards highlighting a particular genre of sadness. In addition to the full brand and Invision prototyping, I created all original copy and research.
The app features a timeline, playlists, and highlights of individual songs, as well as a digital article on the science behind sad music. Let’s find the joy in being sad.
This project was the perfect chance to pair my love of writing and talking about music with exciting design challenges.
More than anything, I wanted to emphasize the joy in sad songs through wit and humor – the way they bring us together, make us feel less alone, and offer a sympathetic voice on the radio.
